about

Although I was naturalized French, I have always maintained a strong attachment to my birthplace, Poland, which inspired me the name of one of my discoveries: polonium.
My mother and sister died of infectious diseases while I was still very young, which led me to take refuge in studies where I quickly excelled in all subjects.
I had to leave Poland which did not allow women to pursue higher studies, and it was in Paris that I obtained my physics and mathematics degrees.
There I met Pierre, who became my husband and scientific partner. As a woman, my emancipation was difficult: my name was not always mentioned as part of our joint discoveries, and five years after his death, the scientific community never forgave my affair with another man.
I devoted my research to the radiation produced by uranium, totally unknown at the time.
The discovery of radioactivity will earn me many rewards, and will cause my loss.
I am the first woman to receive the Nobel Prize. I am the only woman to have received two. I am the only person in the world to have received this award in two distinct scientific fields: Physics and Chemistry.

I am Maria Skłodowska, married and known as Curie.

101010, dix scientifiques, grandioses, opprimés, martyrs, spoliés de leurs découvertes. De grands esprits ayant subi l’injustice, l’oppression morale ou religieuse.

Pour les privilégiés, l'égalité sonne comme une oppression.
